Injury and Insurance Lawyers in Ottawa Ontario.

Unfortunately, accidents happen every day. When someone is involved in an accident they typically need to access their accident benefits through either their insurance company or the insurance company of the at-fault driver. One of the accident benefits that is most often needed is the medical, rehabilitation and attendant care benefits.

The typical maximum amount for medical and rehabilitation expenses, (physiotherapy, chiropractic treatment, dental expenses, etc..) is $50,000 if your injuries are deemed to be non-catastrophic. If you are deemed to have catastrophic injuries, the standard maximum is $1,000,000 in medical, rehabilitation or attendant care benefits. The standard maximum for attendant care is $36,000. If you are catastrophically injured, the standard maximum is $1,000,000.

Additional optional benefits can be purchased through your insurance company and can cover up to $100,000 or $1,100,000 in medical and rehabilitation expenses as well as $72,000 or $1,072,000 in attendant care expenses, and up to $3,000,000 in combined medical, rehabilitation and attendant care expenses for anyone deemed to be catastrophically injured.

While OHIP covers medical visits, it does not cover all healthcare expenses. If your accident has left you with serious injuries, chances are you will need many treatments that are not covered or partially covered by OHIP such as physiotherapy,  chiropractor, mobility devices (crutches, wheelchairs), home modifications, car modifications and other goods and services. These additional medical, rehabilitation and attendant care benefits can make all the difference.

Most serious injuries such as brain injuries, spinal injuries and amputations are permanent and require hundreds of thousands of dollars in treatments and equipment on an ongoing basis. It may even be possible, depending on the severity of your injury that you require attendant care 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

Having all the benefits available to you when you need them is critical.  If you are unsure of what Ontario accident benefits you need and can access, we can help you figure it out. We can sit down with you and walk you through your options and help you figure out how to get maximum accident benefits.
